The grades they are a-changin'!

As of my last post I had BIG aspirations for getting my little blog started. I thought that surely with another month of summer left I could figure out how to cute up the blog, work on some TPT stuff and get myself together. And.... that didn't happen at all! I went to the beach for a week and on the way home saw a Second Grade position open at my school. I wanted it! I love Kindergarten, but had always had the opinion that teaching the same grade is like dating. You don't always stick with the first one you like a lot! You shop around, try new things and see where your heart belongs.
So, long story short, I got the Second Grade position and I haven't stopped since. I am in a new grade at a new school and working with a (fabulous) new team! Finally I have gotten back here for an update. I am optimistic that the school year can only get easier from here and that I will be able to get back to doing the things I want to do!

Baby Steps...

Beware! This is what happens when you change schools and move to a much smaller room! My current classroom is in a school that was originally designed to be a 5th/6th grade school. It is now transitioning to a PreK-5 school. I love having a room that is relatively new and has a nifty office area. However, working with a space designed for children that are taller than waist high has been a challenge. I've sat and stared at this mess a lot. I invited the husband/teacher over for expertise. I ate some cookies and hoped for inspiration. No luck. How do you get inspired to get your room prepared? Do you keep it the same every year or change it up?

Finally!

A co-worker introduced me to teacher blogs this year and I was addicted! I love getting to see cute projects, hear about your classroom management, find new books, get organizational tips (desperately needed!) and see classroom setup pictures. I think it is wonderful that we are all able to share and collaborate with teachers from around the country.

I am beginning this blog as I have packed my room at what has been my school home for 6 years. I will begin the 2011-2012 school year in a new school. I thought it would be great to chronicle the unpacking and setup of a new room as well as the beginning of a new school family. Enjoy :)
